Betting the NCAA Tourney – Fading the Public

How to Bet during March Madness

For a handful of us we do not care whether you call it March Madness or the NCAA Tourney. All we care that it is coming this March 2008. When the Nations best 65 College Basketball teams meet to decide who will be crowned number one. What an exciting time of the year for us gamblers who wager on the tournament.

This is a great time to build that bankroll on some predictable basketball. Let me share one secret to betting the NCAA Tourney this 2008 season. As simple as it may sound, Fade the Public this year. Joe Public has trended nicely this year with his wins and loses in basketball. Although he won big in the Super Bowl so this has probably set him up for failure in the NCAA Tournament.

I use a service called SportsInsights to determine my public betting percentages. This is my favorite and they have a great Fade the Public this year. Joe Public has trended nicely this year with his wins and loses in basketball. Although he won big in the Super Bowl so this has probably set him up for failure in the NCAA Tournament.

I use a service called SportsInsights.com to determine my public betting percentages. This is my favorite and they have a great basic program for FREE that will allow you to see the information I am sharing. Click here to visit SportsInsights.com

Let’s say that Team A has 78% of the wagers coming in on them and they are favored by 7 points. Now Team B has 22% of the wagers and are underdogs of 7 points.

Team A -7 78% of public wagers
Team B +7 22% of Public Wagers

It’s 1 hour before tipoff of the NCAA Tourney game and the public percentages are the same, however the line is now 6.

Team A -6 78% of public wagers
Team B +6 22% of Public Wagers

This tells us that the “smart money” or someone who may have inside knowledge and wagering a large sum of money is actually one of the 22% on Team B.

As you can see, fading the public isn’t too difficult. You will need some patience during the NCAA Tournament these perfect games don’t do not come around often. However, when they do you can bet with confidence that they will produce winners for you this March Madness.
